Elements of the Creative Process, Chaos, and Emotions
WISE HD, LLC Founder, Dr. Melissa Schmitz, presents research related to creativity, chaos, and emotions at the 2025 Southern Oregon University Creativity Conference.
The conference will take place on the campus of Southern Oregon University May 15-18, 2025. This event has something for everyone, including those who study the science of creativity, seek to leverage research on creative thinking, or simply consider themselves to be creative!
In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, innovation requires a deep understanding of the creative process. In a practice-led creativity research, novel to media studies, D.A. Morney has explored elements in the creative process in the innovation of new television formats, comparing with interdisciplinary creativity theories. The creative process is found to be nonlinear, featuring a pivotal phase between divergent and convergent thinking where chaos and disorder may occur. This stage is perceived differently by different people. In her research, Ed.D Schmitz explores how creativity education is supported by mind, brain, and education science to understand how emotions impact creativity and learning providing strategies that support this pivotal phase.
